1,037 citizens died of cholera, diphtheria in 2019: Health Ministry
SANAA, Aug. 22 (YPA) – The Yemeni Ministry of Health on Thursday said that 818 citizens have died of cholera epidemic and 219 others died of diphtheria, mostly children, in all provinces since the beginning of the year 2019.
“The highest percentage of deaths was in Ibb province with 113 cases, followed by Dhamar province with 89 deaths,” Dr. Yousef al-Hadhri, a spokesman for the ministry, told Yemen Press Agency.
Dr. al-Hadhri indicated that the number of people infected with the cholera epidemic reached 583,416 cases, of which 146,317 went under rapid check-ups, and the number of positive cases amounted to 88,262 cases during the same period.
He added that the diphtheria-infected cases amounted to 3,941 cases in all provinces, and Ibb province topped the rest of provinces with 641 cases, followed by Hodeidah province with 560 cases.
