SANAA, Aug. 21 (YPA) – A U.S. military aircraft, an MQ-9, was shot down late Tuesday in Yemen’s Dhamar province, southeast of the capital Sanaa, two U.S. officials told Reuters on Wednesday.
The military spokesman of the Yemeni army said earlier that the air defenses forces on late Tuesday shot down a U.S.-made drone over Dhamar province.
He identified the targeted drone as “MQ-9 Reaper drone which operated by the United States Air Force.”
This is not the first time a U.S. drone has been shot down in Yemen.
“On June 6, 2019, a US-MQ-9 aircraft was shot down, and we estimate that it was caused by a ground-to-air missile launched from the SA-6 air defense system,” a statement by the spokesman for the US Central Command in the Middle East read
Yemeni air defenses have shot down many of these spy planes, which are the latest from the US industry in the region.
The US recognition of Yemen’s successful destruction of its plane reveals the extent of its participation in the aggression against Yemen and the massacres of civilians.
