63 killed in suicide blast at wedding hall in Kabul

SANAA, Aug. 18 (YPA) – At least 63 people were killed and more than 182 injured in a suicide blast that hit a wedding celebration in western Kabul overnight, the Afghan Interior Ministry said on Sunday morning.

The Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman confirmed early on Sunday that dozens of people were killed or injured in a suicide bombing at a wedding hall in the capital Kabul on Saturday evening.

He said on Twitter that the blast took place inside the Shahr-e-Dubai wedding hall, in police district no. 6 at around 10:40 PM local time.

Dozens of people were killed inside the wedding hall when the explosion occurred on the platform of the hall in a two-storey building.

Unconfirmed reports said that a suicide bomber blew himself up with an explosive belt he was wearing directly near the platform where the wedding was being held.

The Taliban have denied responsibility for the attack, which is the deadliest in recent times. Afghan security sources said the nature of the attack and the target location bore the hallmarks of the terrorist group Daesh (ISIS).

Ambulances continued to evacuate the victims until the early hours of Sunday, while security forces cordoned off the area and took strict security precautions.

No group or entity has yet claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack
