Qatar rejects ripped Yemen, calls for stopping war

DOHA, Aug. 16 (YPA) – The State of Qatar on Thursday expressed its concern over the recent developments in Yemen’s south, reiterating its position in support of Yemen’s unity and stability, calling on all parties to stop the war.

“We are following with great concern the developments in Yemen, especially in Aden,” Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman said on his official Twitter page Thursday.

“Qatar emphasizes the importance of ensuring the unity of Yemen and preserving its gains,” he added.

The Qatari foreign Minister pointed out that what is happening in Yemen is a real humanitarian catastrophe, especially in the light of recent developments, calling on the parties to the conflict in Yemen to stop the war and end the growing humanitarian tragedy.

He asserted that only innocent Yemenis who pay for “the catastrophic repercussions of the coalition war led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE, since March 26, 2015, which Qatar left on June 6, 2016.

The State of Qatar was alone among the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states in 1994 summer war which rejected the secession of southern Yemen and supported its unity, and likewise Iraq did from among the Arab states, while Iran topped the Islamic countries rejecting separation.

The announcement of Qatar’s position in support of the unity of Yemen and rejecting the shredding of its social fabric, came after Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates empowered militants of the so-called “Southern Transitional Council” to control the city of Aden, backing the adoption of the council’s declaration of secession of the south.

Qatar’s position also came days after Iran’s Supreme Leader of the Iranian Revolution renewed the same stance and affirmed Iran’s support for Yemen’s unity and that the country’s problems “can be solved by a Yemeni-Yemeni dialogue without anyone’s intervention.”
