Yemeni army repels Saudi attack, shoots down reconnaissance aircraft in Najran

NAJRAN, Aug. 8 (YPA) – The Yemeni army backed by Popular Committees on Thursday managed to repel a large-scale attack carried out by mercenaries hired by Saudi-led coalition in Najran region, a military official told Yemen Press Agency.

According to the official, Dozens of the mercenaries were killed and wounded during their foiled infiltration attempt on the army positions in front of Al-Sudias site.

Meanwhile, the artillery unit bombed gatherings of military vehicles in the same area which increased the number killed and forced the rest of the attackers into retreat.

Furthermore, the official confirmed that the air defenses of the army were able to shoot down a reconnaissance aircraft belonging to the Saudi-led coalition during a counterattack of the Yemeni forces.

The official confirmed that the attack lasted for several hours with the participation of military and reconnaissance aircraft without making any significant progress on the ground.
