SANAA, June 12 (YPA) – The forces of freedom and change in Sudan announced that they would suspend their civil disobedience and lift the political strike on Wednesday, until further notice. The move came in a statement issued by the coalition on Tuesday.
The statement emphasizing that it would continue to operate until the transfer of power to civilians.
“The civil disobedience has been remarkably successful, a milestone in this process,” according to the statement.
For his part, the Ethiopian envoy to Sudan said that the Sudanese parties agreed to continue discussions on the formation of a sovereign council based on what was previously agreed.
He noted that the Sudan military council had agreed to release political prisoners as a step of confidence-building.
In the same context, the United Nations said on Tuesday that it follows “with great concern the developments on the ground in the Sudanese capital Khartoum” and calls on the authorities to “stop the excessive use of force against civilians,” the spokesman for the United Nations Secretary-General, Stephen Dugrick said a press conference.
“We want to see an immediate end to the excessive use of force and ask the relevant authorities to stop arresting civilians who have an important role in the process of negotiations between the opposition and the military council,” Stephen Dugrick added.
