Activists lay children’s shoes in Brussels as protest against Saudi-led war on Yemen

SANAA, May 30 (YPA) – Dozens of activists put large banners in front of the European Commission’s headquarters in the Belgian capital of Brussels on Wednesday demanding a stop of the Saudi-led coalition war and protection of civilians in Yemen, which has been under serious conditions since March 2015.

Activists voiced their protest by putting scores of children’s shoes in front of the European Commission’s headquarters, as a reference to attempts by civilians to flee shelling, destruction and clashes across all places in the stricken country, according to the Euronews channel.

Earlier on Tuesday, a group of Yemeni and foreign rights activists have closed the entrance of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) embassy in the Belgian capital of Brussels with iron chains, in order to protest against its crimes in Yemen and other countries.

The activists hung a banner at the entrance to the UAE Embassy, read “Closed due to UAE crimes.”

Human rights activists also painted the ground leading to the entrance to the embassy with red paint as a reference to the ongoing crimes against civilians in Yemen and other countries in which the UAE is directly involved.

The activists chanted slogans condemning the UAE’s policy of killing civilians in Yemen, and the practices of torture practiced in secret prisons in the south of Yemen.

They called on the international community to pressure the UAE to stop its war and crimes against civilians in Yemen, pointing out that this war serves the agenda of colonialism.

The UAE, along with Saudi Arabia, has been leading the war against Yemen since March 2015, killing and wounding tens of thousands of civilians, including children, and has brought to Yemen the worst humanitarian crisis in the world according to UN reports.

International reports accuse the UAE of committing horrific crimes in its secret prisons in southern Yemen, as well as the crimes of assassinations and kidnappings carried out against those who oppose its policies.
