RIYADH, May 14 (YPA) – Saudi Arabia said on Monday that two of its oil tankers were among the ships that were attacked off the coast of the UAE.
It described the attack as an attempt to threaten the security of world oil supplies amid a state of tension between the United States and Iran.
“One of the two oil tankers was attacked in the UAE’s economic zone, while on its way to load oil from Saudi Arabia’s Ras Tanura port to ship it to Saudi Aramco customers in the United States,” Saudi Oil Minister Khaled Al-Faleh said in a statement.
Al-Faleh added that the attack did not result in any casualties or leakage of fuel, but caused severe damage to the ships’ structures.
The UAE said on Sunday that four merchant ships were exposed to sabotage near the emirate of Fujairah, one of the world’s largest ship refueling centers and located just outside the Strait of Hormuz. But it did not give any details on the nature of the attack or who stands behind it.
