UN welcomes national party’s initiative to redeploy from Hodeidah ports
HODEIDAH, May 12 (YPA) – Head of the UN Coordination Committee, General Michael Lollesgaard on Sunday praised the initiative of the national party to redeploy from Hodeidah ports, calling on the other party to take similar steps to improve the humanitarian situation of Yemenis.
The Office of UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths announced that Lollesgaard welcomed the unilateral redeployment from the ports of Hodeidah, al-Salif and Ras Issa.
The office said in a statement that “ UN mission to support Hodeidah agreement will monitor and report the unilateral redeployment, which begins on May 11 and will be completed on May 14, 2019.”
The statement noted that “the full implementation of Hodeidah agreement will ensure effectively the access of humanitarian aid to Yemen, where millions still need lifesaving assistance.”
The envoy office confirmed that United Nations would continue to support the parties in this regard to fulfill their obligations towards the Yemeni people and restore peace and stability for Yemen.
It is worth mentioning that the redeployment and positioning of the Yemeni army forces and popular committees from Hodeidah and Salif ports and Ras Issa oil facilities were carried out under UN supervision and in the presence of the UN team monitoring the ceasefire.
