Boeing 737 slides into Florida river with 136 on board

SANAA, May 4 (YPA) – A Boeing commercial plane carrying 136 people slipped off a runway and into the St. John’s River near Jacksonville after landing on Friday evening, a spokesman for the US Navy Air Force Base in Jacksonville, Florida said.

According to Reuters, the mayor of Jacksonville on Twitter said that everyone aboard the plane “alive and confined” but the crews are working to control the jet fuel on the water.

“The plane did not sink, everyone was alive,” the Jacksonville police chief said on Twitter.

A spokesman for the airbase said the plane was coming from the naval base at Guantanamo Bay and slipped into the river at the end of the runway at about 9:40 pm local time.
