Mahra tribes prevent Saudi occupation forces’ entry from Sarfait port

MAHRA, April 24 (YPA) – Yemeni tribes in Houf district, eastern Mahra province, on Wednesday prevented the entry of Saudi forces to the border port of Sarfait with the Sultanate of Oman.

Tribes and residents of the district prevented a number of military vehicles of the Saudi occupation force from entering the port of Sarfit and changing it into a military barrack, a source told Yemen Press Agency.

Sarfait is one of the Yemeni border ports with the Sultanate of Oman and is located in the province of Mahra, eastern the country.

The source added that military reinforcements consisting of tanks and armored vehicels were seen in al-Ghayda heading towards al-Ghaydah airport, where Saudi military forces were deployed, turning the airport into a military barracks and prisons.

He indicated that the introduction of troops and military equipment come with the aim of reinforcing the Saudi forces controlling the airport for more than a year.

The Saudi occupation forces arrived in the province in November 2017. They continued to prevent residents from navigating and fishing at Nashton port. They also turned al-Ghayda international airport into a military barrack, preventing civilian flights to it.

Since the beginning of 2018, Mahra province has witnessed many protests calling for the withdrawal of the Saudi and Emirati forces from the province, the handover of the two ports of Shahen and Sarfait border ports, Nashton seaport and al-Ghayda airport to Yemeni forces in order to preserve national sovereignty.
