Angry demonstration against deterioration of basic services erupted in Taiz

TAIZ, Aug. 13 (YPA) – An angry demonstration erupted, on Wednesday, in areas under coalition control in the center of Taiz city, protesting the lack of basic water and electricity services and rising prices.

Protesters blocked main streets in the Saynah area in the city center and set fire to damaged tires to express their anger over the deteriorating service and living conditions, without any notable reforms by the coalition-affiliated government.

The demonstrators emphasized that the ongoing water crisis, despite the presence of main reservoirs in the neighborhood to supply their homes with water, has been exacerbated by rampant corruption in the Water Corporation, depriving them of water for the past months.

The protesters demanded that the coalition-affiliated authorities take urgent action to address the crisis and improve services, warning of escalating protests if their demands are not met.

This comes in the context of angry popular protests against the pro-coalition authorities over the past months, demanding services, amid accusations against the pro-UAE governor, Nabil Shamsan, of plundering the governorate’s resources and revenues.
