Supreme Political Council announces solidarity with Syria, warns USA of consequences

SANAA, March 26 (YPA) -The Supreme Political Council of Yemen has released a statement declaring that the Republic of Yemen is in solidarity with the Syrian Arab Republic and its right to defend its occupied territories in the Golan Heights.

“The Republic of Yemen rejects the absurd decision of US President Trump to recognize the annexation of the occupied Syrian territory in the Golan Heights to the Israeli enemy,” the Supreme Political Council said in a statement.

In the statement, the Council stressed that “this decision constitutes a challenge and a flagrant violation of international law, including Security Council resolution 497 (1981), which was unanimously adopted not to recognize Israel’s annexation of the occupied Arab territories in the Golan.”

“Such unilateral decisions by the administration of President Trump are an export of its internal problems to the world, including attempts to change the rules of the game in the Middle East, which is known as the ‘deal of the century,” the statement read.

“Consequences will not only affect the region, but will extend outside the region and serve to exacerbate the violence that constitutes a threat to international peace and security, “the statement added.

The Supreme Political Council also condemned “the Israeli raids on the Gaza Strip and its targeting of civilians in a process coinciding with the statements and decision of US President Trump on the occupied Syrian Arab Golan Heights.”

The US declaration on the Golan Heights and the merciless Zionist attack in Gaza coincides with the upcoming” Israeli” elections. Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu is fearing electoral defeat due to his government’s economic mismanagement and judicial investigation into corruption.
