UN Chief: The Yemeni peace consultations in Sweden have achieved good results

SANAA, Dec. 13 (YPA) – The peace consultations between the Yemeni warring parties have just concluded on Thursday in the Swedish town of Rimbo.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said that the Yemeni peace talks in Sweden have achieved good results.

The two sides have reached an agreement on the port of Hodeidah and an understanding to ease tensions in Taiz province, Guterres said.

“The agreement included a ceasefire in the city of Hodeidah, a deployment of neutral forces and an establishment of humanitarian corridors,” he said, adding that “a political framework will be discussed in the next round of meetings scheduled for January.”

“We set January that the warring parties to be ready for progress in some files that are still controversial,” he said, stressing that the agreement today means a lot to the Yemenis and to the whole world.

He indicated that many governments played an important role in organizing these talks, including Kuwait and Oman.

For her part, Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallström expressed her pleasure at the participation of Yemeni civil society in the work of the Peace consultations in Sweden, stressing that Sweden will co-chair a conference to support Yemen.
