STC elements set up checkpoints to target citizens in Abyan

ABYAN, April 23 (YPA) – Saleh Abdulrahman Alfania, a researcher at Aden University came under a bandit attack while he was along with his family by members of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in the province of Abyan.

Alfania confirmed in a post on Facebook yesterday, Monday, that he was subjected to a bandit attack at a distance of about 400 meters from one of the points belonging to the STC outside the city of Zinjibar, the center of Abyan, while he was coming with his family from the city of Mukalla.

He explained that the gunmen brandished their weapons in front of him, threatening to kill  him  in front of his family.

They gunmen asked him to  hand over his car and belongings in exchange for his release.

He indicated that he managed to convince the gunmen to pay a sum of money in exchange for his release after negotiating with them, but they refused to allow him to pass

Alfania said that he offered extra sum of money beyond the agreed upon amount and threw it in the air to distract the gunmen while he was able to leave the area safely.

He also reported the incident to the security belt forces in Zinjibar city.

Security authorities said that they would take necessary action and move to arrest the gunmen.
