STC’s official reveals source of arming council’s militias

SANAA, June 27 (YPA) – Head of the foreign relations department in the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) Mohammed al-Ghaithi has revealed the source of arming the council’s militias.

“The establishment and arming of the council’s militias was legitimate and by a decision of the outgoing president Hadi,” al-Ghaithi said during an interview with the Russian agency Sputnik on Friday.

Talking about the Riyadh agreement, al-Ghaithi indicated that there is nothing in it that stipulates handing over the council’s weapons, but it only stipulated the redeployment.

Al-Ghaithi stressed that the situation in the occupied southern provinces “has completely changed, which requires updating the Riyadh agreement.”

He explained that what was recently reached is only “a temporary truce based on three points; a cease-fire, an end to the escalation, and a return to the Riyadh agreement.”
