20 civilians killed in two attacks on two villages in northeastern Congo

SANAA, June 23 (YPA) – At least 20 civilians were killed in two attacks on two villages in the northeast of the country earlier this week, the latest wave of violence that has forced more than 200,000 people to flee their homes, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) military said.

According to Reuters, the army said that militants from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), which is linked to the Daesh takfiri group, attacked the village of Fukaka in Ituri province on Sunday.

“They (the militants) appeared in this remote village after fleeing an army attack and killed our people,” said Army spokesman Jules Ngongo in Ituri. Unfortunately, ten people were found dead.”

According to Lieutenant Anthony Mualushayi, a spokesman in North Kivu Province, another 10 people were also killed in an earlier attack on the village of Biangulo in the territory adjacent to Ituri, . The spokesman gave no further details.
