World Bank grants WHO $26.9 mln to confront COVID-19 in Yemen

SANAA, April 6 (YPA) – The World Bank has granted a total of $26.9 million to back the World Health Organization (WHO) to boost its preparations to combat COVID-19 in Yemen, according to WHO’s statement on Monday.

The WHO representative in Yemen, Altaf Musani, said that the health system in Yemen is already fragile, adding that the event of a coronavirus outbreak ,it would be disastrous for the country.

Musani stressed that “diseases do not respect the international borders, countries like Yemen must remain vigilant to confront the virus cross the border.”

According to Musani, new support provided by the World Bank for Yemen came at a critical time when cases continue to increase around the world.

Yemen has not yet recorded a single case of the virus, according to the WHO.
