PM meets UNICEF Executive Director’s Envoy

SANAA, Feb. 26 (YPA) – Prime Minister Dr. Abdulaziz bin Habtoor on Wednesday met in Sanaa with Special Envoy of UNICEF Executive Director Saad Houry.

During the meeting, Dr. bin Habtoor stressed that UNICEF and other organizations should take into account the issue of developing partnerships with ministries and government agencies and supporting the efforts of the service institutions such as water, environment, and public health and population.

The prime minister pointed to the suffering of the Yemeni people due to the aggression and the siege and restrictions imposed by Saudi-led coalition on 80 percent of the population of the Republic of Yemen, who found themselves in a large prison.

He pointed noted that this suffering requires the continuation of UNICEF and other international humanitarian organizations to provide aid and support to reduce the suffering of citizens.

The meeting discussed ways to enhance and develop aspects of the partnership between the government and UNICEF to face some of the existing humanitarian challenges, especially in the maternity and childhood sector.

Houry said that UNICEF is keen to stabilize the institutional side and develop cooperation with relevant ministries and government agencies.

He pointed out that the UNICEF program in Yemen is the largest on the global level, given the scale of the ongoing tragedy that the Yemeni people are currently experiencing.
