YMU launches 3rd report on coalition’s crimes against media in Yemen

SANAA, April 29 (YPA) – Yemeni Media Union (YMU) on Sunday launched the third annual report of April 2018, about the crimes and violations of the aggression coalition against media and media men in Yemen.

In a press conference organized by the Union, the Presidential Advisor Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Tarib called on the national media to stand united during the current stage.

Al-Tarib said that despite the lack of support Yemeni media were able during the past period to uncover the aggression crimes and defend the homeland and its sovereignty and independence.

He condemned the assassination of the president Saleh al-Sammad by the US-backed Saudi aggression coalition, considering it a cowardly and treacherous crime, for which the coalition will pay high price.

The YMU’s annual report in its third edition monitored over three years of war a series of violations and crimes that affect the media and media men at home by the Saudi-led coalition.

The crimes and violations included the deliberate killing, bombing media institutions, the continued blocking of a number of satellite channels and cloning of others, and the closure of dozens of social networking pages in addition to direct and indirect violations.

A total of 180 media men were killed and 16 wounded by the coalition airstrikes, according to the report.

The violations also included five cases of cloning channels, 22 cases of destroying facilities, 30 cases of targeting radio, television centers, seven cases of suspension of broadcast on Arabsat and Nilesat Satellites, and seven cases of blocking and confusion.

In April 27, 2017, the management of Arab Radio and Television Festival in Tunisia suspended the participation of Al-Maseera TV channel under Saudi pressure.

The report also referred to the losses and damage caused by the aggression to the offices of Yemen News Agency (Saba) and headquarters of the other official press institutions.

The report also recommended the formation of a neutral international inquiry committee to look into the war crimes committed by the Saudi aggression against media in Yemen.
