140 Algerian pilgrims survive death after plane engine blast

SANAA, Dec. 3 (YPA) – About 140 passengers survived death on Monday after an engine of an Algerian airplane carrying them exploded during a flight from Saudi Arabia to Algeria.

The engine of the plane, a Boeing 767-800 belonging to the Algerian Airlines, exploded an hour and a half after it took off from the Holy Medina towards the Algerian Annaba city’s airport, according to the French-speaking Algerian “Algeria Watch” website.

The website said that the explosion occurred after one of the engines caught fire, causing panic and fright among the passengers.

After its engine caught fire, the Algerian plane made an emergency landing at Cairo airport in Egypt, where it remained stopping, while passengers were flown to another plane, the website added.
