Several lawmakers of Algeria’s ruling FLN party resign

SANAA, March 8 (YPA) – Several lawmakers of Algeria’s ruling FLN party have resigned to join mass anti-government protests, Algerian media outlets said on Friday.

Thousands of demonstrators rallied in Algiers on Wednesday to protest against President Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s candidacy for a fifth term.

Protesters flocked to the central post-Square and nearby streets, while the rallies are expected to surpass past moves, being the first Friday after Bouteflika officially nominates.

Police and riot control forces reinforced their presence in the central postal yard and the roads leading to it, the authorities shut down subway stations and stopped all trains to and from the capital.
