SANAA, March 4 (YPA) – Member of the Supreme Committee for Elections and Referendum (SCER) Judge Ali al-Samet on Monday said that the process of selecting candidates in the complementary parliamentary elections would be according to the mechanism approved by the Committee.
Judge al-Samet explained that the political parties’ candidates would be selected by a recommendation from the general secretariat of the party, or by an official memorandum from the secretary-general of the party or his authorized representative.
For independent candidates, they will be selected in accordance with the legal requirements that the candidate has been recommended by 300 voters from the constituency.
Al-Samet pointed out that due to lack of time, the committee decided to form supervisory and original committees and sub-committees from the educational staff of the Education Ministry because of their presence and spread in all districts and provinces of the country.
He said that the elections would be held in all constituencies declared free by the Parliament, which are 34 constituencies, including those in the provinces of Hadramout, Abyan, and Aden.
The election law has defined the mechanism to deal with unsecure constituencies and how to transfer them to other secure constituencies, he added.
