Protests in Algeria Against President’s Bid for 5th Term

SANAA, Feb. 22 (YPA) – Thousands of Algerians took on Friday to the streets in several towns to denounce ailing President Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s bid for a fifth term.

According to Algerian website “TSA, many demonstrations and marches were organized in several states, the largest in the state of “Annaba” in northeastern Algeria.

The demonstrators raised Algerian flags and banners, rejecting the fifth term of President Bouteflika.

The site of Al-Khaber newspaper said that the demonstrators tried to march towards the headquarters of the presidency in Al-Mouradah, but the security forces prevented them from going there and repel them using water hoses to disperse them.

The newspaper added that the protesters then went to the headquarters of the National People’s Assembly.
