SANAA, Feb. 7 (YPA) – Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has said on Thursday that his country would continue negotiations with Russia to find an appropriate solution and to conclude a peace treaty.
“We will continue the negotiations in order for the Japanese and Russian people to promote relations of trust and friendship, and to work together in an effort to find an appropriate solution for the parties, to settle regional issues and to conclude the peace treaty,” Abe said.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the first step in the process of accelerating negotiations on the peace process between Russia and Japan should be made by Japan.
Tokyo should recognize the results of the Second World War and Russia’s sovereignty over the South Kuril Islands.
