SANAA, Jan. 23 (YPA) – The Southern Philippine Election Commission announced the victory of the Muslim Moro in the city of Cotabato in their “Yes” voting for a popular referendum on the ” Bangsamoro ” law, which gives broad autonomy to the country’s Muslims.
According to the city’s election commission, “36, 682 voters voted in favor of granting Moro Muslims self-rule, against 24,994 votes.”
Based on the results of the referendum, the autonomous region of Mindanao will be abolished, instead of creating a “Bangsamoro” area, which will enjoy broad autonomy.
The outcome of the referendum in another action, on February 6, will determine the fate of other regions demanding to join Bangsamoro.
The Government of the Philippines will allocate funds to the Department of Self-government on an annual basis, and taxes levied from the area are shared between the government and the local administration.
