SANAA, Nov. 12 (YPA) – Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf welcomed on Sunday the call of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michele Bachelet to immediately end the military escalation in Hodeidah and to take immediate steps to end the suffering of civilians and respect international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
In a statement, Sharaf welcomed Bachelet’s call to the coalition to immediately remove the restrictions on the safe and rapid entry of indispensable humanitarian supplies and other goods and remind them of the obligation of all States to take measures to ensure respect for the Geneva Conventions by the parties to the conflict, including setting conditions, limiting or preventing the transfer of arms to the conflict’s parties.
The minister renewed the invitation of Bachelet to visit Yemen to learn about the truth of what the Yemeni people are being subjected by the countries of coalition for the fourth year in a row.
Sharaf pointed out that the military escalation in Hodeidah would lead to a major humanitarian disaster and undermine the peace efforts of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen.
Sharaf also reiterated the Salvation National government’s willingness to participate in the peace talks
The minister also called for the formation of an independent international commission of inquiry to investigate the crimes committed against the Yemeni people to bring justice to the victims.
