SANAA, Oct. 30 (YPA) – Deputy Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan said on Monday that the United States has abandoned plans to ban the use of cluster munitions.
According to the official, the warehouses will be saved from these weapons to confront North Korea.
“The review of our policy has been linked to the situation with North Korea,” the Military website quoted the US official as reporting.
During the training, we had a question, how are we going to confront North Korea? Then we looked at the ammunition we needed and what we already have at our disposal. ”
Replacing cluster bombs with other types of supplies could “take a lot of time,” the US deputy defense secretary added.
The use of these weapons is prohibited under the Convention on Cluster Munitions. The Convention was not signed by the owners of the largest arsenals (the United States, Russia, and China).
These bombs were used especially during the Vietnam War, in the Balkans and in southern Lebanon.
Handicap International condemned in 2013 the “increased use” of these bombs by the states that possess them.
