NEW YORK, Sep. 5 (YPA) – The UN Security Council members on Wednesday expressed their full support for the political process in Yemen and the efforts of UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy, Martin Griffiths, to reach a political settlement.
In this regard, the Security Council members welcomed in a press release the United Nations-led consultations with representatives of the Yemeni parties scheduled for 6 September 2018 in Geneva.
They reaffirmed that there was no solution to the conflict in Yemen but a political solution, reiterating their call for the full implementation of the Security Council resolutions and statements, including the resolution 2216.
The statement urged the Yemeni parties to seize this opportunity to calm tensions and to participate fully and constructively and in good faith to build trust between them and to take the first step towards ending the conflict that has brought severe pain and human suffering to the people of Yemen.
The Council members called on the international community, including regional neighbors, to support these consultations actively.
In the statement, the Security Council members stressed their strong commitment to the unity, sovereignty and independence of the territories of Yemen.
