TAIZ, Oct. 20 (YPA) – The family of citizen Hafez Al-Sufyani in Taiz province was rescued by chance when they were returning home on Monday in the Wadi Bani Khowlan area of Jabal Habashi District, south of Taiz city.
Suddenly, a powerful explosion shook the area as warplanes flew overhead. The father urged his family to hurry home, only to discover that his house had been targeted in an airstrike that reduced it to rubble.
Villagers rushed to the house to rescue Hafez and his family. However, Abdulhafez quickly reassured the people who had gathered to help that he and his family were safe, as they had been returning from his uncle’s house.
Residents of the area told the Yemeni Press Agency that Hafez’s house contained nothing unusual that would warrant being targeted by Saudi warplanes.
They added that Saudi warplanes had become a threat to civilians’ lives because of indiscriminate bombing targeting homes, in a clear violation of international law, which prohibits attacks on civilians and civilian objects during wartime.
Hafez stood in shock, wondering why the warplanes had targeted his home and whether he and his family—including the children and women—would have become victims for no reason.
Residents of the Bani Khowlan area called for the formation of impartial international investigative committees to examine the incidents in which they have been targeted by airstrikes.
They stressed that the strike on Hafez’s home was not an isolated incident, but came amid an increase in attacks on civilians by Saudi warplanes in the province.
