UN Secretary-General calls for permanent ceasefire in Gaza Strip

NEW YORK, Oct. 06 (YPA) – UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and for ensuring the large-scale, unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid.

In a press statement on Monday evening, Guterres stressed that ongoing hostilities have inflicted untold suffering on Palestinians in the stirp. He emphasized that civilians are living in unbearable conditions and that their suffering must end immediately.

Citing data from UN agencies, he noted that Israeli occupation attacks have killed more than 74,000 people—including 20,000 children—and injured over 100,000 others. Furthermore, nearly the entire population of 2.1 million has been displaced, with vast areas of the Strip destroyed.

The Secretary-General pointed out that the ceasefire initiated in October 2025 helped alleviate some suffering, but it has not yet provided adequate security, sufficient humanitarian aid, or a credible path toward recovery and peace.
