Britain threatens to expel 27 Israeli diplomats in response to closure of its consulate in Jerusalem

OCCUPIED AL-QUDS, Oct. 05 (YPA) – Israeli sources said that Britain threatened to expel 27 Israeli diplomats from the occupation embassy in London if Tel Aviv did not reverse its decision to close the British Consulate in East Jerusalem.

The Hebrew newspaper “Yedioth Ahronoth” reported that British Ambassador Simon Walters conveyed a message stating that London would take a similar step by expelling 27 Israeli diplomats if Israel maintained its closure decision.

The potential move comes against the backdrop of deteriorating relations between the two sides, after Britain imposed sanctions last month on settlements in the West Bank, and Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar responded by closing the British Consulate, which provides services to Palestinians and employs 27 diplomats.
