Military personnel set to protest in Mukalla over delayed salaries

MUKALLA, Sept. 27 (YPA) – Military personnel in Mukalla have announced plans for a demonstration on Monday to demand the payment of long-overdue salaries and allowances, according to local sources.

Dozens of personnel from the Second Military Region, known locally as “Abu Sitteen,” are expected to hold a protest outside the local authority headquarters in Mukalla, on Monday morning, to demand their financial allowances be paid in Saudi riyals, matching other military units.

The move comes as personnel from the Second Military Region seek to end more than 10 years of financial hardship amid delays and unfulfilled promises by the Saudi military command in the area.

Members of the factions receive salaries of no more than 60,000 Yemeni riyals, which are often paid several months late. As a result, people in Hadramout have come to refer to them as “Abu Sitteen,” reflecting the extent of their grievances.
