Saudi-backed government fails to hold September 26 Revolution events in southern Yemen
ADEN, Sept. 26 (YPA) – The Saudi-backed government and the so-called “Presidential Leadership Council” have suffered another political and media setback after failing to hold any official event marking the 64th anniversary of the September 26 Revolution in Aden or other southern and eastern provinces, which it describes as “liberated.”
In Mukalla, the capital of Hadramout province, several supporters of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) removed the Yemeni flags from outside some government institutions and publicly burned them, highlighting the absence of the so-called internationally recognized government backed by Riyadh.
The government, which continues to emphasize its “internationally recognized” status, has been unable to raise the Yemeni flag at its headquarters inside Al-Maashiq Palace in Aden or exercise authority on the ground.
Rashad Al-Alimi, head of the so-called “Presidential Leadership Council,” along with all council members and most ministers and officials of the Saudi-backed government, are reportedly under house arrest in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
The report said their absence has left Aden and other southern and eastern provinces facing a severe deterioration in basic services and living conditions, with no significant presence of senior officials on the ground.
Security and local affairs in the areas are reportedly managed directly by Saudi military personnel from the Special Committee. Saudi officer Falah Al-Shahrani reportedly oversees Aden and the neighboring provinces of Dhalea, Lahj and Abyan.
Meanwhile, Saudi military representative Musleh Al-Otaibi reportedly operates from Ataq, where he oversees Shabwa province. One of his relatives, identified as Badr Al-Otaibi, reportedly oversees Hadramout and Al-Mahra provinces.
As a result, the authorities claimed by the government and the Presidential Leadership Council have been reduced to merely a nominal façade for advancing an agenda of foreign tutelage and control over southern and eastern Yemen.
