CAIRO, Sept. 21 (YPA) – A Yemeni military commander affiliated with factions of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) was found dead on Sunday inside a hotel in the Egyptian city of Aswan under mysterious circumstances.
Political sources familiar with the matter confirmed the death of Mohammed Ali Mahdi Hadi, known as ‘Socrates,’ commander of the UAE-aligned Second Support and Reinforcement Brigade in southern Yemen. He was found dead inside a hotel in Aswan amid unclear circumstances.
The sources said the Yemeni embassy affiliated with the Saudi-backed Aden government’s foreign ministry in Cairo had ruled out any criminal suspicion, noting that it was awaiting the results of the forensic examination.
Activists from Aden and other southern provinces said Hadi’s death came amid a pattern of systematic targeting and political eliminations, particularly after he was subjected to what they called exclusion, marginalization and harassment, which prompted him to leave Aden for Egypt.
