Sanaa forces reaffirm commitment to securing international maritime navigation

SANAA, Sept. 21 (YPA) – Yemen’s Sanaa-based armed forces reaffirmed their commitment to protecting and securing international maritime navigation and global supply chains in Yemeni territorial waters.

In a statement, Minister of Defense in the Sanaa government Maj. Gen. Mohammed Al-Atefi and Chief of General Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Al-Madani said the naval forces and coastal defense forces remain committed to ensuring the safe passage of commercial vessels, with the exception of Saudi vessels, which Sanaa has imposed a maritime blockade on as part of the blockade-for-blockade equation.

In a congratulatory cable to Supreme Political Council president Mahdi Al-Mashat marking the 12th anniversary of the September 21 Revolution, Al-Atefi and Al-Madani said the armed forces had enhanced their weapons and tactical capabilities and were at the highest level of readiness to confront attempts targeting Yemen’s security and its legitimate demands.

They renewed their call on those misled into joining Saudi-backed military buildups to take advantage of the general amnesty and return to the homeland.
