Washington approves two $5.75 billion arms deals for Saudi Arabia

WASHINGTON, Sept. 05 (YPA) -The United States has announced its approval of two deals to sell military equipment to Saudi Arabia totaling $5.75 billion, aimed at bolstering the Kingdom’s defense capabilities.

The US State Department explained in two statements that the first deal, worth $5 billion, includes the sale of long-range JDAM-ER bombs and guidance kits, as well as other equipment, and will be executed by Boeing. It said the deal supports Saudi Arabia’s internal defense system and enhances its ability to operate jointly with US forces and Washington’s partners in the Gulf.

The second deal, valued at $750 million, includes the sale of 60 1500-AGT engines used in M1 Abrams tanks, in addition to containers, spare parts, and logistical and technical services, and will be executed by Honeywell.

The State Department confirmed that the two deals are consistent with US foreign policy and national security objectives and contribute to strengthening Saudi Arabia’s ability to confront current and future threats.
