Maariv: Gulf states increasingly turn to Israeli weapons amid regional tensions

QUDS, Aug. 30 (YPA) – The Israeli newspaper Maariv reported that several Gulf states are increasingly moving toward purchasing weapons systems and military equipment from Israeli defense industries, amid rising regional tensions and security threats.

The newspaper quoted an Israeli defense industry official as saying that there is extensive cooperation with various countries, pointing to growing security and military ties between Israeli occupation and several states in the region.

The remarks came in the context of discussions about the Typhoon naval gun system developed by Israeli occupation’s defense company Rafael, one of the military products the occupation is seeking to market abroad.

In this regard, Maariv also highlighted a dispute surrounding plans by Rafael to open a plant in the German city of Osnabrück, at a Volkswagen facility scheduled to close by 2027.

Under the plan, the facility would be converted into a plant producing components for the Iron Dome air defense system, a project that could preserve thousands of jobs. However, Qatar, which owns roughly a quarter of Volkswagen’s shares, opposes the project.

Asked about the dispute with Germany and Qatar’s opposition to the project, the Israeli official avoided discussing the details, saying only that occupation has hundreds of international cooperation arrangements.
