Young airport worker dies by suicide in Aden amid worsening living conditions

ADEN, Aug. 28 (YPA) – A young man working at Aden International Airport, which is under Saudi control, died by suicide on Friday, in an incident that shocked residents of the Khormaksar district. No official explanation has been given for the circumstances or motive behind the incident.

Human rights sources in Aden said the young man, identified as Fikri, worked transporting passengers’ luggage inside Aden International Airport in Khormaksar. They said the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.

According to the sources, the young man’s family found him dead inside his room after he had locked the door from the inside.

They said he was the only son in his family and suggested that deteriorating living conditions and the crises facing the city may have contributed to his death.

The sources held the local authorities, which they said are administered by the Saudi Special Committee, responsible for conditions that have driven some residents into despair and suicide.

The incident sparked shock and grief among residents of Khormaksar, amid continued deterioration in living and economic conditions in Aden and other southern and eastern Yemeni provinces since coalition forces took control of the city.
