8 killed in charter plane crash at US base in Alaska

ALASKA, Aug. 21 (YPA) – Eight people were killed on Friday when a charter plane crashed inside the US Army’s Cape Newenham Long-Range Radar Base in Alaska, according to an Army statement carried by Anadolu Agency.

The statement explained that the accident resulted in the deaths of two pilots and six passengers who were on board the plane, which was chartered from a civilian entity. The base is located 725 kilometers west of Anchorage.

Alaska Command indicated that the base is managed through the Pacific Air Forces Regional Support Center and is part of a network of remote radar sites that monitor Alaskan airspace and borders.

“This is a tragic loss for our military family and the communities we serve,” said Commander Lieutenant General Robert Davis, adding that the victims “were dedicated professionals performing a vital mission in an extremely challenging environment.”
