HADRAMOUT, Aug. 16 (YPA) – The “dissolved” UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) called on Sunday for the removal of Saudi-backed Hadramout Governor Salem Al-Khanbashi, announcing a comprehensive civil disobedience campaign set to begin Monday in Mukalla as part of its escalated political and popular opposition against Riyadh.
During a leadership meeting in Mukalla, the STC held the local authorities fully responsible for deteriorating living conditions and public services, particularly ongoing electricity outages and cooking gas shortages.
The council demanded Al-Khanbashi’s immediate resignation to allow new leadership to manage the governorate, warning of widespread chaos if local demands remain unaddressed.
Additionally, the STC urged business owners, drivers, and residents to participate fully in Monday’s strike to press for service improvements. This campaign follows a broader anti-Saudi influence initiative announced last month in Aden.
