Italy calls to nominate Gaza children for the Nobel Peace Prize

ROME, Aug. 11 (YPA) – The Italian newspaper “II Mattino” reported that an initiative launched in the newspaper “Avvenire” calling for the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to the children of Gaza was launched by Professor Eugenio Mazzarella and received widespread support.

The newspaper indicated that the initiative came amidst the continued repercussions of the war on the Gaza Strip and the harsh humanitarian conditions, especially for children.

The Secretary-General of the Italian Democratic Party, Elie Schlain, expressed her support for the initiative, stressing that the truce in Gaza “has not ended the suffering,” as people are still dying as a result of Israeli attacks and what she described as the “crimes” of the head of the occupation government, Benjamin Netanyahu, in addition to the shortage of food, water, and medicine.

She added, citing UNICEF reports, that one child dies every day in Gaza since the beginning of the truce.

The initiative comes amid increasing international focus on the health and humanitarian suffering of Gaza’s children as a result of the war and the lack of basic needs.
