Civil disobedience paralyzes Aden for third day in rejection of Saudi guardianship

ADEN, Aug. 10 (YPA) – A partial civil disobedience campaign continued on Monday in Saudi-controlled Aden for the third consecutive day, with broad public participation against Saudi tutelage and in protest of deteriorating public services and living conditions.

Labor unions are demanding the regular payment of overdue salaries as part of an escalating protest strategy initiated by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)—which was dissolved by Saudi Arabia in July.

The partial work stoppage spread across most areas and neighborhoods of the city, aiming to pressure relevant authorities to address worsening socio-economic issues. Chief among these are frequent power and water outages, rising prices of basic commodities, and declining citizen purchasing power.

Participants stressed that basic services and living conditions constitute an urgent priority that cannot be delayed, citing their direct impact on the daily lives of residents. They called for immediate, practical measures to mitigate the consequences of the economic crisis.

The protests conveyed messages reaffirming the participants’ rejection of the current administrative mechanism for Aden and southern governorates, which continue to suffer under severe economic and living conditions.
