Sanaa urges Socotra residents to reject foreign interference

SANAA, Aug. 10 (YPA) – Hashim Al-Socotri, governor of Socotra appointed by the Sanaa-based authorities, issued a statement on Monday calling on the residents of Socotra and the southern and eastern provinces to unite against external interference and avoid alignment with Saudi-led conspiratorial calls.

In a statement to the official Yemeni News Agency (Saba), Al-Socotri stated that current regional developments require unified national action to confront ongoing security and economic challenges stemming from the more than 11-year conflict, blockade, and military campaign led by Saudi Arabia.

“The situation requires the residents of Socotra and the occupied provinces to avoid being drawn into calls that serve external agendas and lead to internal conflict,” Al-Socotri said, accusing Saudi forces of utilizing local proxies to advance their interests in the region.

Al-Socotri commended the resilience of the local population in the southern and eastern areas over recent years despite deteriorating public services, difficult living conditions, and attempts to alter the cultural identity of the island and surrounding areas.

He highlighted that the position of the Sanaa leadership—headed by Sayyed Abdul-Malik Al-Houthi—and the political and military authorities in Sanaa aims to counter preemptive moves by opposing forces seeking to expand control over Yemeni territory. He urged local communities to support the Sanaa-based administration to maintain the country’s social fabric and territorial integrity.

Concluding his remarks, Al-Socotri renewed a call for all Yemenis to return to the ranks of the unified homeland and its capital, Sanaa. He emphasized that internal dialogue without foreign custodianship or external intervention remains the sole path to lasting peace, stability, and development in Yemen.
