Oman-Iran talks on Strait of Hormuz navigation progress ‘positively’ amid Iranian conditions

MUSCAT, Aug. 08 (YPA) – The Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Saturday that negotiations regarding navigation arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz are proceeding in a “positive and constructive” atmosphere, emphasizing the need to avoid any actions that could impact the progress made.

The developments come as Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and a US official indicated that an Omani-Iranian agreement on joint navigation management—under discussion for two years between the two coastal states—is close to being reached.

Conversely, Tehran has made the reopening of the strait conditional on Washington compensating for its violations and reforming its behavior.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) affirmed that reopening the strait remains subject to independent Iranian terms and mechanisms, separate from the negotiation track with Muscat.
