Iranian media: Northern and southern lanes in the Strait of Hormuz to be removed

TEHRAN, Aug. 06 (YPA) – Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency quoted an informed source stating that the northern and southern shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz will be phased out, consolidating all maritime traffic into a central corridor. Under the proposed plan, Iran will oversee entry into the strait, while Iran and Oman will jointly manage the exit.

According to the source, once an initial transition period ends, all commercial vessel movements will be funneled exclusively through the central lane. Ships transiting the waterway will be subject to specific tariffs covering services such as maritime insurance, refueling, and environmental compliance.

The source also denied reports of friction between Tehran and Muscat, clarifying that there is no dispute between Iran and Oman regarding tariffs levied on cargo passing through the strait.
