Mogadishu urges “Somaliland” to sever ties with “Israel”, return to unity 

MOGADISHU, Aug. 06 (YPA) – Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has called on the administration of the breakaway region of “Somaliland” to sever ties with “Israeli occupation entity” and return to dialogue with the Federal Government, emphasizing that unity and Somali brotherhood remain the only solution to the ongoing rift.

Speaking during an event marking the anniversary of the establishment of Somalia’s North East State (Puntland), Barre stated that Mogadishu advocates resolving differences through peaceful negotiations and dialogue. He warned that the current trajectory of the region’s leadership is taking its people down the “wrong path.”

 Barre noted widespread local and international rejection of the rapprochement between Somaliland and “Israel”, stressing that preserving Somali identity and national unity serves the best interests of all Somalis.

The remarks follow “Israel’s” announcement in December 2025 regarding mutual recognition with the separatist region—a move the Somali government denounced as a direct violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
