Iran, Oman draft joint statement to regulate navigation in Strait of Hormuz amid Iranian warnings of US threats

TEHRAN, Aug. 06 (YPA) -The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a joint statement with the Sultanate of Oman regarding the regulation of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz has entered the final drafting and review stage.

This follows negotiations held over the past two months to examine technical, legal, security, and environmental aspects aimed at establishing a safe route for commercial shipping and reaching an agreement on the geographic coordinates for the proposed pathway.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed in statements to Tasnim News Agency that talks between the two coastal nations are proceeding in a professional and advanced manner. However, he noted that this understanding does not imply full security for the maritime corridor, given ongoing threats, naval blockades, and aggressive actions by the United States.

Baghaei attributed the closure of the strait to military aggression by the US and “Israel” against his country and the resulting security repercussions.

In another context, Baghaei denied any scheduled visits by the Iranian Foreign Minister or the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Parliament) to Pakistan or Qatar later this week, while reaffirming that communications and exchanges of views with both countries remain ongoing in light of their efforts to de-escalate regional tensions.
