GENEVA, Aug. 04 (YPA) – The UN Special Rapporteur on the right to health, Dr. Tlaleng Mofokeng, said that various evidence indicates that Israeli occupation’s targeting of Gaza’s healthcare system, including the widespread destruction of medical facilities and denial of access to healthcare, falls within the concept of medical genocide.
In an analytical report, the UN Special Rapporteur said the findings also examined the reproductive genocide.
The report drawn on UN, human rights, and medical documentation detailing attacks on hospitals, healthcare workers, and patients, as well as restrictions on the entry of medicines, medical equipment, fuel, humanitarian aid, and medical evacuations.
It stated that these actions constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity and provide evidence of conditions imposed that are aimed at the physical destruction of a protected population.
The report also noted that the destruction of maternity facilities and the denial of maternal healthcare threaten the long-term survival of the Palestinian population.
It added that its legal analysis also covers violations in the occupied West Bank and calls on the international community to protect Gaza’s healthcare system, ensure humanitarian access, and support international accountability efforts.
