Trump: we canceled Iran attack after deal framework reached
WASHAINGTON, Aug. 02 (YPA) – US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he had decided to cancel a planned military strike against Iran.
He said the decision was made after receiving requests from Tehran and other countries in the Middle East seeking another opportunity to complete negotiations.
In a message posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump revealed that US forces had already been prepared for a large-scale operation. “The United States is fully prepared to take action against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he wrote.
He later emphasized the strength of the military preparations, saying they were at a level of readiness “not seen since World War II.”
According to Trump, the requests he received from Iran and other countries in the region led him to suspend the military action after initial understandings were reached regarding a new agreement.
According to the president’s statement, the emerging framework includes the full and immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping, along with steps aimed at ending Iran’s nuclear threat.
Trump said the cancellation of the strike was intended to allow progress on the agreement, but clarified that the decision was not final and would depend on developments in negotiations in the near future.
He added that the United States and “Israel” are working in full coordination on the diplomatic process, and called on all concerned parties to accelerate talks and reach agreements.
He concluded his message with a brief call to all participants in the negotiations: “Get to work, everyone, and get this done.”
According to Trump, if rapid progress is not achieved in the agreement, the possibility of renewing the military option will remain on the table.
Meanwhile, US media outlets reported that the decision to suspend the attack on Iran came after efforts led by Vice President JD Vance and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to persuade Trump to abandon the plan.
The reports added that US media had leaked information before the suspension decision indicating that Washington had asked “Israel” to prepare for an attack on Iran.
They also noted that shortages in missile stockpiles were a key factor behind Trump’s decision to halt the planned attack.
